Intra- and inter-temporal effort allocation and profit-maximizing strategy of trawl fishery

چکیده
Abstract Bottom trawlers are engaged in multi-species fisheries and fish for profit. In quota-regulated fisheries, intra- inter-temporal substitutions of fishing effort is regarded as a key mechanisms that influences the profitability portfolio. The feeding spawning migration patterns available species portfolio alter bio-economic conditions different areas. addition, spatial heterogeneity among areas terms fuel costs travel distance, accessibility to other fleets, sea ice extent affects relative attractiveness further complicates decisions underlying allocation, such when where what how much maximize this regard, aim article identify drivers allocation trawl fishery consisting 61 Norwegian vessels targeting cod, saithe, haddock, being profit within quota constraints. We adopted two-step Heckman estimator incorporates three heavily trawled areas, southern northern parts west coast Norway high Arctic. specified by availability, measured using catch per unit effort, prices target species, cost, intensity coastal fleet's participation winter fishery, seasonal Barents Sea during period 2011–2016. Our results show region-specific attributes margins have profound impact on intra-temporal Furthermore, we found evidence economically rational behaviour constantly reallocating their response changes selected over course year.

Value and information: A profit maximizing strategy for Maxwell's demon
Applications of Lagrange's method of undetermined multipliers in physics and economics suggest some analogies between the two disciplines. By using the work of E. T. Jaynes on information theory, the long standing problem of Maxwell's demon in thermodynamics can be cast as a constrained optimization problem where information and energy are dual concepts. Temperature emerges as the energetic pri...

15 صفحه اولA long term (1949-2010) study of catch and effort in Israeli trawl fishery, Eastern Mediterranean Sea
The trawl fishery of the Mediterranean coast of Israel was analyzed vis á vis catch and fishing effort for the years 1949-2010. The Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) was calculated using the Fox surplus-yield model and was found to be 1,413 ton per annum using 1,415 units of effort (fishing days X engine power divided by 1000). Only during nine years (1997-2005) did fishing effort exceed the valu...
